TORONTO (ON), Axis Club - 02/25/2025
There couldn’t have been a better occasion for this blog to start covering concerts on North American soil. Between Canada and the United States, there are myriad events dedicated to metal. Every time a tour is announced, the reaction of amazement is always the same.
Not only the big festivals, but also underground shows are packed with exceptional line-ups, and in February Toronto hosted quite a few of them. After Decapitated, accompanied by Incantation, the city welcomed Aborted for the Terrifying North America Tour, a gala dedicated to slam/brutal in the company of Ingested, PeelingFlesh, and NecroticGoreBeast.
The location is the Axis Club, one of Toronto’s most famous venues, ready to host a sold-out event. From the very beginning, the crowd is massive; the two floors of the venue are already half full, and after just half an hour, everyone warmly welcomes the first band to take the stage.
NECROTICGOREBEAST
NecroticGoreBeast kicks off the night, the only Canadian band (from Québec) on the entire bill. It only takes the first notes of Deviant Primitive Debauchery to make the whole venue shake with crushing slam riffs, immediately igniting the crowd into the first circle pit of the evening. With a setlist spanning across the three albums released so far, the band delivered their first huge contribution to the event, with an opening that really couldn’t have gone any better.
NECROTICGOREBEAST SETLIST:
Deviant Primitive Debaucher
Unsedated Face Removail
Sterilized Infant Fleshdol
Assault of Severed Genitalia
Forced Tracheotomy Penetration
Grotesque Pathological Anomalies
PEELINGFLESH
After a 30-minute break, another band with absolutely no intention of going easy steps onto the stage. PeelingFlesh is currently taking over the extreme scene with a mix of slam, brutal death, and hip-hop influences. It’s definitely an unusual combination, made even more distinctive by the use of samples taken from outside the extreme metal world, resulting in something that can be surprisingly effective live. And it is: Damonteal Harris leads the show well with his explosive growling, but the rest of the band is no less impressive. Drummer Joe Pelleter is in outstanding form behind the kit, while Mychal Soto and Jason Parrish on guitars deliver a powerful performance that wins over the audience. The best set seen so far.
PEELINGFLESH SETLIST:
Nefarious Moongras
The Fuckening
Mr Nasty Time
Bodega Bloodbath
Barbarianism

INGESTED
Past the halfway point of the night, it’s time for Ingested to take the stage. The English band, fresh from their latest album The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams, is the only act on the bill leaning more toward deathcore. A slightly different shade compared to the others, but certainly no less heavy: the new addition, Josh Davies, proves it with his screaming, alongside the drumming of Lyn Jeffs, while a crowd now fully unleashed keeps the energy high with constant mosh pits and wall of deaths that never seem to stop. The setlist revisits a large portion of their discography, ending the show with the final blows Cremated Existence and Skinned and Fucked, followed by loud applause as they leave the stage.
INGESTED SETLIST:
Titanomachy
Endgame
Altar of Flesh
Impending Dominance
Invidious
Copremesis
Cremated Existence
Skinned and Fucked
ABORTED
Only one band remains, the most anticipated of the night. Aborted are part of that group of bands that, throughout their history, have achieved a strong authority within the scene. And they have all the credentials: they’ve been active for 30 years, they have released no fewer than 12 albums (each one better than the last), and most importantly, they have never changed their approach to extreme metal by even a fraction. Ferocious, brutal, aggressive — just like their entrance on stage. The opening notes of Dreadbringer are enough to unleash a massive mosh pit, with Sven de Caluwé relentless as ever with his devastating growls. Also worth mentioning is the remarkable performance of Ken Bedene, who drives the blastbeats forward flawlessly, supporting the guitarists with razor-sharp riffs. The show never slows down, not even between songs, when Sven takes the opportunity to loudly incite the crowd and push the atmosphere even further: he constantly calls for a wall of death, crowd surfing, and even invites people to get on stage, like a true frontman. And the audience doesn’t need to be told twice: during Death Cult, Shape of Hate, and Insect Politics, the number of people climbing onto the stage becomes impossible to count, going up and down continuously, while those further back throw themselves into the final mosh pits of the night. The evening closes with Hecatomb. Aborted once again proved to be one of the best bands to experience live, not only for their technical execution of the songs but also for their charisma as true showmen, which made this night as memorable as expected.
